Amor Fati (Love of One’s Fate), 2019
With this work I have juxtaposed the oppressive historical associations that accompany mental illness, embodied by the straight jacket, with the use of a typically cheerful Hawaiian fabric. I hope to remind the viewer that with acceptance we can swim playfully in the same waters we once drowned in.
